POPFUL JAPAN
TSUKINO KAERU
Original
2024 H530 × W455 mm (F10)
Acrylic paint, inkjet pearl glossy paper, transparent film, dye ink, resin, glitter powder, rhinestones, acrylic mirror / wooden panel
A semi-three-dimensional work created by layering an original digital illustration while coating it in resin. The multilayered textures achieved with resin, acrylic mirror and other materials echo the diversity of the world, which is also the theme running through all of Tsukino Kaeru’s work.
It is a work in which many elements coexist: the digital quality of the original illustration and the analog feel of handmade layering, the craft-like and the painterly.
Traditional Japanese patterns, Japanese landscapes and age-old motifs such as the Wind God and Thunder God are rendered in pop colors.

Profile
I began painting at the age of 46, while still working as a company employee.
Having received no art education since high school, it felt like “going back to retrieve something I had left behind as a child.”
Having lived through the move beyond the postwar era, rapid economic growth, and the lost thirty years that followed the collapse of the bubble economy, I aim to create works that help people keep their positive spirit and feel uplifted amid the social change that will continue.
I invite you to see artworks in which many elements coexist: the digital quality of the original illustration and the analog feel of handwork, the futuristic and the nostalgic, the craft-like and the painterly.
