Profile
Taking as motifs the gods and divine beasts found throughout Japan and Asia, I visualize unseen beings and energies from my own perspective. The invisible presences and mystical powers I depict are rooted in nature worship (animism) and in Asian mythology and thought.
As culture has developed since the age when people lived alongside the unseen, such presences have faded from awareness. That is precisely why I hope, through art, to make them feel close at hand.

ABOUT THE WORK關於作品
白い体に小さな角、大きな渦巻きの瞳。炎のような裾をもつ小さな神獣が、木の台座の上にちょこんと佇んでいる。
宮間夕子による立体作品「照々（壱）」。樹脂にアクリルで彩色されたエディション作品（ED 2/10）だ。絵画で描かれてきた神獣が、手のひらサイズの立体として現実の空間に現れる。やわらかな白と、裾に差したオレンジのグラデーションが、温かな守り神のような存在感を放つ。
