Profile
Taking as motifs the gods and divine beasts found throughout Japan and Asia, I visualize unseen beings and energies from my own perspective. The invisible presences and mystical powers I depict are rooted in nature worship (animism) and in Asian mythology and thought.
As culture has developed since the age when people lived alongside the unseen, such presences have faded from awareness. That is precisely why I hope, through art, to make them feel close at hand.

燃え上がる炎の輪の中に、鹿のような角を持つ神獣が、牙をむいてこちらを睨む。周囲には赤や黄、緑の雲や炎が渦を巻き、装飾的な文様がびっしりと描き込まれている。
宮間夕子は、日本やアジアに広がる神や神獣をモチーフに、目に見えない存在やエネルギーを独自の視点で視覚化する作家。その根底には、自然崇拝や、アジアの神話・思想がある。タイトルは「火輪を纏い迎え討つ」。油彩、水彩、アクリルを重ねた画面から、守護の力がみなぎるように伝わってくる。
