Profile

Under a distinctive worldview called “Ukiyo-e Modern Art,” yam focuses on human “emotions and the movements of the heart,” creating works every day that are “somehow strange and beautiful.” Negative emotions can at times become an unfathomable driving force for people. yam aims to channel even these negative emotions into works that stay close to someone’s heart and lighten their feelings, if only a little.

Drawing on a past career as a writer, yam now works with a technique combining “pictures and poetry,” and exhibitions are designed as spaces that feel like reading a picture book.

Currently based in Fukushima Prefecture, yam presents work at solo and curated exhibitions in Japan and abroad, and works across a wide range of fields, including logo and design work for individuals and companies and mural (shutter) art.
