My painting process is as follows:

1. First, I scribble freely, drawing circles, triangles, straight lines and so on.
2. Then I draw what I see emerging from it.
3. Usually I add eyes and the like; since it then looks like a face, I try turning it into a face.
4. I adjust the overall balance.
5. If I am not satisfied, I erase part or all of it.
6. I return to step 1, or, if it works (when the eye is led around the canvas for a certain time and a feeling of happiness arises), the painting is complete.

Profile

I express the fusion of “anime and manga culture” and “comedy culture,” primarily through painting, as well as sculpture, murals and live painting. Building on works influenced by Japanese subculture, I fuse them with traditional Nihonga and calligraphy in pursuit of layered expression. In recent years I have combined and abstracted graffiti, manga onomatopoeia and Jomon-like magical patterns, exploring the expressive possibilities of sign and language, abstraction and figuration. I currently live in the countryside near Tokyo, aiming for self-sufficiency and attempting a fusion of farming and art.
