“Sexuality’s Tale” was created using a semi-traditional Thai painting technique, based on the idea that tales can entertain while also teaching us morals. The fact that tales are simply stories made of situations that can happen in everyday life inspired me to create this work. I re-create a Thai folk tale and express it through a combination of semi-traditional Thai painting and Gay Art, reflecting sexual orientation within our society and fostering awareness and peace.

Patarasak was born and raised in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand. While studying science and mathematics in high school, he became interested in art through drawing plants and animals for biological illustration. He chose to pursue a bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University. Drawn to the technique of applying Thai tempera on a tamarind-glue ground, to traditional Thai art, and to a wide range of disciplines including Thai painting, mixed media, ceramics and woodcarving, he chose to major in Thai art. Interested in the arts of gender, sexuality and folklore, he reinterprets them through a variety of characters, speaking of the problems encountered in daily life and of overcoming them, and presents this as gender and sexuality art blended with traditional Thai art.
