Profile

Daisuke Sawai presents works on the theme of “connection.” Sawai began making art under the strong influence of skateboarding. His starting point was a life in which fire-based graphic design, found throughout skateboard culture in flaming deck graphics, brand logos and fire-motif corporate characters, was simply part of everyday life; this lived experience prompted him to reflect on the existence of fire.

By regarding fire as it is used in beliefs and customs as “a catalyst that connects with other worlds,” he seeks to express both the melancholy and the glorification of humans who continue to “connect” with an ever-expanding civilization. His original character, “burning bunny,” expresses connection with the present day through a variety of means.
